This article is a great example of how to get the job you want, not the one you feel you have to take. I’d add an example from our own Mr. Jeff Clark, who started ihiredjeffclark.com fresh out of college, with the goal of landing a marketing role in a hip, growing, internet-oriented firm in Boston. Seth Godin blogged him, fer the love of Pete. And we hired him… Dammit.
*Editors note: The Recruiting Animal makes a valid point in his comment (below) – he was first to blog on JC (no, the other one – I think the Pope blogged the other guy first). Seth G. picked up on him later that morning. His comment actually validates my point – the more visible & proactive you are, the greater chance you have of generating that (in)famous “buzz” around your candidacy.

The way I heard it, I blogged him (on Recruiting.com) and Zoom hired him.

Point taken – didn’t mean to imply that Seth got there first, more that Jeff, a fresh grad out of Broken Arrow, OK got the attention of a guy who is arguably the thought leader in Jeff’s chosen field (marketing), and who is also one of his personal heros.
For me, that’s like James Tate saying that he likes my poetry.

[...] I always secretly dreamed of being fought over. Two feisty redheaded ladies (in long jackets, maybe?) pulling, tugging and slapping each other (and maybe more?) just for the rights to be called Jeff’s. The comments to this post are the closest I’ll probably ever come to it. And I’m OK with that, I think. [...]

No offence, Marty, but I think you’re operating on hearsay. Jeff, show him your marketing letter. (I published most of it online).

RA – again, thanks for your clarification. I’ll take you at your word that you were there first. The point was simply to say that Jeff was talked about by a well-known & regarded thought leader in his field. Mia culpa, mia culpa if I offended you.
BTW, here’s Seth’s blog on Jeff (if anyone aside from the 3 of us even care at this point, which would surprise me):
